This is the top-level directory of the public FTP (file-transfer protocol) filesystem, accessible with FTP clients as ftp://ftp.math.utah.edu/pub/ or, with any Web browser, as http://www.math.utah.edu/pub/ . Although the network services differ, they share a filesystem mounted at the root /pub. Everything that is visible to an FTP client is also visible to a Web (HTTP) client; the reverse is not true.
If you are mirroring parts of our public FTP filesystem, PLEASE consider doing so with the RSYNC protocol, which mostly sends only differences, rather than entire files. See Mirroring the archive for details.
